![]() Red-light safety camera programs have the potential to reduce the number of red-light collisions and injuries associated with these crashes. Traffic crashes are the single most significant cause of preventable death and injury in North America. The purpose of this program is to increase traffic safety in the city by reducing red-light running violations, collisions and injuries.Īccording to data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 36,500 people were killed and 2.7 million were injured across the nation in 2018 in traffic crashes. In order to do so, Fayetteville implemented a red-light safety camera program in July 2015. WESTBOUND RAEFORD RD MILLS RD (Deactivated) The program has issued 167,350 citations as of October 31, 2021.Ĭitations Per Location (JOctober 31, 2021) Citiations Per Location.Most red-light running violations occur between 4 p.m.Most red-light running violations occur on a Friday.Since that time the camera at the intersection of US 401 (Raeford Road) and Hope Mills Rd/Glensford Drive was removed due to a conflict with the adjacent development's driveway location, reducing the number to 14 cameras at 12 intersections. These cameras were activated August 1, 2017, bringing the total to 15 cameras at 13 intersections. City Council resolved to expand the program as part of their FY 2017 strategic plan, by adding five (5) cameras.These comprised the initial group of ten (10) cameras. Four (4) cameras were activated July 1, 2015, followed by six (6) on October 1, 2015.All funding is remitted to the Cumberland County School System through an interlocal agreement with the City of Fayetteville. The first Notice of Violation is $100.00, of which, $35.00 is the cost of the program.
